The present head of the KCWK Music and Opera Section and lead scholar and warrior role, Woo Wai Fong was born into a Cantonese opera family. Father Woo Wah Hung was a noted amateur warrior role artiste in the 1960s. She fell in love with Cantonese opera when she was young due to her father’s influence. He introduced her to stage performance in the 1960s but she quit after marriage from 1963 to 1973．In 1973, she returned to the opera stage and has stayed put for more than 40 years ever since. She held a memorable solo show in 2004 to celebrate her 4 decades of operatic achievements.
In 40 over years, she has held more than 170 performances and acted in hundred opera titles without any remuneration in both Singapore and abroad. Her three daughters occasionally also made guest appearance in performances. With lifelong learning as her motto, she studied under Hong Kong’s famous Cantonese opera performer Mun Cheen Shuih in 2005. At age 70, she is still active in performances here and overseas and conducts classes to groom talents in Cantonese opera.
